The Hi-Lo Jamaican Eating House opened in Oxford in 1981. Still in the same hands, the Hi-Lo has become a well established part of the Oxford scene and is one of the oldest restaurants in the city.

We are now also a bar, licensed till 2 am and we serve food and hot and cold drinks till late.

The Hi-Lo is a great place for a night out. Candlelight , flowers and an extensive collection of music make for a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Reggae, soca, dancehall, roots, R&B, rock n roll, blues and soul feature in our musical archives and may be heard during your visit. We also have guest DJs and late night parties. See Events for more information.

A favourite venue for artists and musicians, Radiohead, Supergrass and Foals are among many bands who have relaxed here, and Kylie Minogue has said that her night here was one of the best of her life. The Hi-Lo was included in the Observer Food & Music supplement as one of eleven places in the country where ‘those in the know’ go.

We are smoking friendly, and you will find a comfortable, covered smoking area beside the bar.

Unfortunately there is no Cowley Road Carnival this year because of lack of funds, fingers crossed for next year!!

We serve fair trade coffee and tea and have a wide range of organic herbal tisanes. We use locally grown produce whenever we can.

We recycle cans, bottles, card and paper and compost green waste. We have had some solar water heating for about five years and plan to use rainwater collected from the roofs to flush the wcs.
